What to do after a concussion

Rest.  If you have a brain injury like a concussion, you may be suffering from headaches, nausea, inability to concentrate and numerous other problems.  Your brain needs time to recover.  Rest means avoiding not only physical exertion but mental exertion as well.  Things like playing video games, watching TV or using a computer tax your brain and your brain needs rest.

People that are unknowledgeable about brain injuries may encourage you to tough it out and get on with it but the best thing you can do to recover is to rest.

We are brain injury lawyers, not doctors so you should always consult a doctor about your individual case.  Treatment for brain injuries is tailored to the individual, depending on the severity of the condition and whether or not there are other injuries.  Therefore, when you see a doctor, relate to the doctor all of your symptoms so the doctor can provide the best possible recommendations for your individual care.

The doctor should take a history from you of how the accident happened, detail your past history of similar injuries and conduct an examination. Based on what he or she finds, the doctor may order further tests such as a CT scan or MRI.

Your doctor may have other suggestions beyond simply rest.  You should consult your doctor about any medication you may want to take because if you have a concussion, you may have a bleeding in or around your brain and certain medications have a risk of increased bleeding.

While you are resting, you may be suffering a loss of income.  Our brain injury lawyers in Vancouver can help you obtain disability benefits and compensation for your loss of income as well as assisting you with all other matters related to your brain injury.

If you suspect you or a loved one has sustained a concussion or other head injury, you may call Taylor and Blair for a free consultation.
